When was the first time you heard about La Santa Muerte and when did you first start believing in her?
The first time was when I was about 4 years old - that was in the little village, where we lived - my mother introduced me to her, because she adored La Santa Muerte. In our house there were images, candles and shrines that my mother used to set up for her. At this time I didn’t understand exactly what it was, but after I left my home - living on the street, I understood, that she was our mother - our goddess. At the beginning we took it as the other god let us down and that was why we were in that situation. So then on the street we saw a homeless kid standing next to an altar, which the boys build… they refuse to eat a fresh apple in order to offer it to La Santa Muerte. Because she is the one who gives us, when we ask her for a favor - she is the force responding to our needs. So the only thing that kept us going on with our lives was to adore La Santísima, because we knew that she responds to our needs. She has given us and what ever we will ask for, she will give us. I have been with La Santísima for around 20 years now.
Can I have a look at the tattoo?
Sure! This one has a lot of things combined in it, a scythe, a balance, the world and an owl for wisdom. Here there is justice in the balance and in her hands she carries the world, which means that she holds all of our lives in her hand. The scythe is so she can execute justice and to protect us from those who want to hurt her or us. The owl represents wisdom and it also gives us the wisdom to do things. And here (showing his necklace) I also carry her in the different representations: This is a skull carved in a small human waist bone of a dead human being. There is the white Santíssima Muerte for purity, the red one for love and passion and on this side I have the representations in purple, blue and yellow.

Wann hast du das erste Mal etwas von Santa Muerte gehört und seit wann glaubst du an sie?
Als ich ungefähr vier Jahre alt war und wir in dem Dorf aus dem meine Mutter kommt wohnten, lernte ich die Santa Muerte (heilige Tote) zum ersten Mal ein bisschen kennen. Meine Mutter verehrte sie und ich kann mich noch gut an die Bilder, die Kerzen und Opfergaben erinnern, die ihr meine Mutter darbot. Verstanden habe ich das damals nicht so gut - das war irgendwie komisch. Ein bisschen später zog ich dann von Zuhause aus und als ich dann mit anderen auf der Strasse lebte, da war Santa Muerte für uns wie eine Mutter, sie war unsere Göttin.Im Prinzip dachten wir, dass wir in dieser Situation - auf der Strasse - waren, weil uns der eine Gott fallen gelassen hatte... und dann sahen wir einen Straßenjungen vor so einem Altar stehen - wie es die großen Typen machen. Bevor sie einen Apfel essen, bieten sie ihn lieber der Santa Muerte an, denn sie ist die Kraft, die uns gibt, wenn wir sie bitten. Also das Einzige was uns übrig blieb um mit diesem Leben fortzufahren war la Santísima zu verehren, weil wir wussten, dass sie auf unsere Bedürfnisse eingeht und auf unsere Wünsche antwortet. Sie hat uns gegeben und was auch immer wir von ihr erbeten werden, wird sie uns geben. Ich habe nun schon seit über 20 Jahren ein Bündnis mit la Santísima Muerte.
Kann ich mir mal dein Tattoo ansehen?
Klar, also dieses hat viele Dinge kombiniert, eine Sense, eine Waage, die Weltkugel und eine Eule für die Weisheit. In der Waage liegt die Gerechtigkeit und die Weltkugel hat sie in der Hand, das heißt, sie trägt alle unsere Leben. Die Sense hat sie um die Gerechtigkeit auszuführen und um uns vor denen zu schützen, die sie selbst oder uns verletzen wollen. Und die Eule wie gesagt steht für die Weisheit, sie gibt uns die Weisheit um Dinge zu tun.
Ich trage sie auch in allen ihren verschiedenen Darstellungen mit mir herum (zeigt sein Amulett): Das hier ist ein kleiner Knochen, aus dem ein Totenkopf geschnitzt ist. Der Knochen stammt von dem Hüftknochen eines toten Menschen. Hier die weiße Santa Muerte für Reinheit, da die Rote für Liebe und Hingabe und auf der anderen Seite habe ich die sie in violett, blau und gelb.
